TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Egyptian Quran master regretted his country’s decision to not dispatch Qaris to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the holy month of Ramadan, referring to it as a case of politicization.

Master Taha Muhammad Abdul Wahab, who served as a jury member of Iran’s 32nd International Holy Quran Competition, told IQNA that the decision made by Egypt’s Awqaf Ministry is a political one.

“I have always emphasized that everyone should mind his own task. A diplomat should do political activities and a Quran activist should work in Quranic fields,” he underlined.

Abdul Wahab said a Quran reciter’s task is to spread the message of the Noble Quran via his beautiful recitation, adding that Egyptian Qaris like to recite Quran all over the world, including in Iran.

Since last year, Cairo has made it difficult for Egyptian Quran activists to travel to Iran and Iraq.
Also, in April this year, Egypt’s Awqaf ministry refused to invited Iranian Quranic representatives to attend the North African country’s international Quran contest.

This is while Quranic program such as international competitions and Quran recitation sessions attended by Qaris from different countries could serve as a venue for enhancing Islamic unity, something that the Muslim Ummah needs more than ever.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Master Abdul Wahab hailed the presence of Iran’s president at the opening ceremony of the country’s international Quran contest, saying that it showed the importance attached to Quranic events.

Iran’s international Quranic event kicked off here in Tehran last Friday, May 15, and the winners of the two categories were announced on Thursday.

120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 75 countries vied for the top prizes in the two categories.
