Quran Recitation Session Held to Commemorate Mina Tragedy Martyrs
TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran recitation session was held in Mashhad, Iran’s northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi earlier this week to commemorate those martyred in last year’s tragedy in Mina, near Mecca, during Hajj.
More than 4700 pilgrims died on September 24, 2015, in a crush in Mina. The incident marked the worst ever tragedy during Hajj.
Iranian Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization put the final number of Iranian pilgrims killed in the disaster at 464.
A number of prominent Iranian Quran activists, including Hassan Danesh and Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, who had won the top prize in Malaysia’s international Quran competition earlier in 2015, were among those killed in the disaster.
