TEHRAN (IQNA) – China should be urged to drop its Islamophobic polices, especially those regarding the Uighurs, the president of the London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) said.

In a video message, Dr Massoud Shajareh added that China should respect the fundamental rights of the Muslim minority group.

An estimated one million Uighurs and other Turkic Muslims are thought to be held in Chinese political reeducation camps in Xinjiang. Human Rights Watch says an additional unknown number are held in prisons and other detention centers.

Beijing’s treatment of Uighurs and other Muslims in the country has been strongly criticized.
