It is visited by travelers to Shiraz, especially during Nowruz, which marks the beginning of the Iranian new year.

The gate is located at the northeastern entrance of Shiraz, on the way to Marvdasht and Isfahan.

It is believed to bless people who pass beneath it before they undertake journeys by means of a copy of the Holy Quran being embedded at a small room atop.

The rectangular-based monument was initially built in the 18th century during the Zand dynasty. However, it succumbed to several multiple quakes, which stroke the city during Qajar era (1785 to 1925).

Over its history, the monument has undergone several restoration and renewal projects.

The latest renovation and repair project has begun by the Municipality of Shiraz under the supervision of the city’s cultural heritage department.
