Guyana Official Says His Country Is Committed to Muslim-Friendly Tourism

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Guyana’s Ambassador to Qatar stressed his country’s commitment to Muslim-Friendly Tourism.

Safraaz Ahmad Shadood delivered a message at the Eleventh Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers conference in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan, on Monday.

According to the text of his remarks released by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Shadood also said the Government of Guyana continues to engage local communities, particularly in the eco-tourism sector, which is a significant part of the tourism industry.

More than 160 representatives from 39 countries took part at the event in the Azeri capital.

Guyana, officially the Co‑operative Republic of Guyana, is a country on the northern mainland of South America. Guyana means ‘Land of Many Waters’.

There are about 50,600 Muslims in Guyana, making up 6.8% of the country’s population.
