Ceremonies in 110 Places in Tehran to Mark Eid Al-Ghadir

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ceremonies marking Eid al-Ghadir will be held in 110 mosques, religious sites, Husseiniyahs (religious centers), government offices and factories in Tehran, an official said.

General Hassan Hassanzadeh, commander of the IRGC’s Mohammad Rasulallah Division, said the programs will be organized on the eve of the auspicious occasion on Sunday evening.

They will include speeches, religious singing, recitation of poems, eulogy recitation and competitions, he noted.

The programs will start at 6 PM and continue until 9 PM, concluding with firework displays, the official stated.

He also said that 1.1 million meals will be prepared to be distributed among those in need on the day of Eid.

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.

It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.

This year’s Eid al-Ghadir will fall on Monday, July 18.
