TEHRAN (IQNA) – The unlimited power of God has been portrayed in different Surahs of the Holy Quran, but in a unique and special way in Surah Al-Mulk, pointing to God’s dominance and sovereignty all over the universe.

Surah Al-Mulk

Al-Mulk is the 67th chapter of the Quran that has 30 verses and is in the 29th Juz. It is Makki and the 77th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Mulk in Arabic means ruler and denotes God’s dominion. The name of the Surah comes from the word Mulk in the first verse.

The main purpose of this chapter is highlighting God’s Lordship all over the world and His power as well as warning people about the Day of Judgment.

Many divine blessings that attest to God’s Lordship are mentioned in this Surah.

The way God’s dominion and power are described in this Surah is special. “Blessed be He in whose Hand is the Kingdom, He is powerful over all things.” (Verse 1)

The way this verse describes God’s power shows that God has dominance over all of the world of existence and can change everything that He wants and that His power has no limit.

The Surah begins with praising God’s dominion and power and goes on to talks about creation, and mentions life and death as divine tests for mankind.

Life and death are mentioned in this chapter as being among the main proof of God’s dominion and power as well as two divine tests that prepare people to be worthy of getting closer to God.

The world is a great venue for testing human beings and the means by which they are tested are life and death. The purpose is reaching the best conduct, full cognizance, purity of intention and doing good deeds.

The subjects mentioned in this Surah can be divided into three groups: First, issues related to God’s attributes and the amazing system of creation, especially creation of heavens, stars, the earth, birds, water, humans, eyes, ears, etc.

The Surah then talks about the Resurrection Day and the severe punishments in hell and what the keepers of hell and those cast into fire talk about.

The third part disbelievers and oppressors are warned about various punishments that await them in this world and the next.
