Forum at Tehran Int'l Quran Expo discusses Quranic studies in West

The forum was organized at the expo’s international section Monday night by the International Assembly of Islamic Seminaries.

It was addressed by Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Peysepar and Hojat-ol-Islam Javad Esmaeili.

Hojat-ol-Islam Peysepar said unless there is proper monitoring of Quranic studies in the West, one cannot have proper interaction with them.

He said the importance and objectives of these studies, and their research methodology should be studied.

According to the scholar, the Quranic studies in the West are conducted in different fields such as history of the Quran, translation of the Quran, Fiqh of the Quran, lexicology and effects of Quran on economic, social and military fields.

He said currently there are several million books and papers written in Quranic fields in different languages.

There are, for instance, some one million books and papers about the history of the Quran, 800,000 about Quran translation, and 900,000 about lexicology of the Quran, he stated.

Hojat-ol-Islam Peysepar noted that most of them are in English and are studies by many people in different parts of the world as sources for Islamic studies.

He stressed that learning about these studies can help Muslim researchers get acquainted with the literature of the subject and methodologies used in Quranic studies.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the scholar stressed the need to introduce to the world the Quranic studies conducted in Iranian seminary and academic centers.

Hojat-ol-Islam Esmaeili, in his address, said it is important that Iranian scholars should know Western scholars working in the field of Quranic sciences and their works.

The 30th edition of the Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition was launched at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) on April 1 and its international section was inaugurated two days later.
