If we want to find a sign for Shirk these phrases would be a good one.
Those who go to “other than God”, want dignity from “other than God”, follow the law of “other than God”, seek the contentment of “other than God”, fear “other than God” and work for “other than God”, are the ones who have Shirk.
An important issue in psychology is finding the root causes of complexes and addressing them. For one who enters the path of monotheism and everything he does is for God, defeat and failure would become meaningless and there would be no reason for suffering psychological problems.
When one moves on God’s path, God will be his purchaser: “God has purchased the souls and property of the believers in exchange for Paradise.” (Verse 111 of Surah At-Tawbah)
He does everything for God and has no expectation from “other than God”.
On the path of Tawheed (monotheism), there are no defeats and failures because everything takes places on the path of God and is done for the purpose of attaining God's pleasure.
So as mentioned above, Shirk means doing things for “other than God”. With this definition, the number of those who have purity of intention in following the path of God is not high. Those who do everything for God and submit to the law of God and will God. The Holy Quran says:
“And most of them do not believe in Allah, but they associate others with Him.” (Verse 106 of Surah Yusuf)
