IQNA – Libya's Municipal Guard in Sirte has confiscated 1,061 small-sized Quran copies during inspection campaigns targeting grocery shops in the city.

According to a statement from the branch's media office, the confiscation was carried out following directives from the Ministry of Awqaf.

The head of the branch explained that the Ministry of Awqaf had issued instructions to seize these copies, which are commonly used as decorative data-x-items in vehicles, Libya’s Alwasat news website reported on Tuesday.

The ministry highlighted concerns that the texts contain incomprehensible words resembling "magical symbols and names of demons."
