It was built by the order of Ali Abdullah Saleh, the former president of the Arab country.

This mosque, which is located in Al-Sab'in Square in the south of Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, is a unique architectural masterpiece that contains a summary of the beauty of Arabic and Islamic architecture. The original name of this mosque was Al-Saleh, which was changed to Al-Sha'ab in 2016 by the order of the Ministry of Awqaf and Guidance of Yemen.

Al-Sha'ab Mosque with an area of ​​225,000 square meters, which can accommodate about 45,000 worshipers, includes the Faculty of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Studies, 25 classrooms, a library, a meeting room, a museum and a prayer hall for women. The women's prayer hall has a capacity of 4,000 worshippers.

This mosque has 6 minarets with a height of 100 meters which are of the highest minarets of the mosques of the Middle East. Also, this mosque has 5 domes, the largest of which is about 40 meters high.

The inscriptions on the walls of the mosque are modeled after the inscriptions on the ceiling of Sana'a Grand Mosque, the oldest historical mosque in this country, which dates back to the time of the Prophet (PBUH).

The walls of this mosque are made of red oak wood with inscriptions, decorations and exquisite geometric shapes, which are worked by the most skilled artisans with high precision and elegance.

The inscriptions installed on the ceiling of the mosque are consisted of about 30,000 colored decorative pieces ornated with gold, which are installed at a height of 23 meters, and the number of verses written on the walls of the mosque includes 708 verses from 62 Surahs of the Holy Quran.

The antiques and artifacts of the mosque from various historical periods has been looted since the start of the Saudi-led coalition war in 2015. The mosque had a museum that housed thousands of important historical pieces, most of which were stolen after the start of the war.
