This is according to a Quranic thesis titled "Aesthetics of Surah Al-Rahman". Sepideh Yaquti's thesis won the first title in the first Festival of National Interdisciplinary Quranic Works, which was held by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization a few weeks ago.
She did the research on Aesthetics of Surah Al-Rahman while studying for M.A. in the field of Art Research at Al-Zahra University in Tehran.
Here are excerpts from Ms Yaquti's scholarly work:
"The Holy Quran is a miraculous text which is the basis of a civilization, that is, Islamic civilization.
When a text is the foundation of a civilization or a culture, its Tafsirs (interpretations) and Ta'wils (explanations of the inner and concealed meanings) are numerous and dependent on various factors.
In the era of globalization of communications in which the language of images and attractive and effective expressions has given a new dimension to aesthetic understanding of human beings, it is important to have a look at the Holy Quran with an aesthetic approach.
It will help us realize that the Holy Quran not only is miraculous in terms of content but also in terms of the aesthetic dimensions of its verses.
On the other hand, understanding and investigating different aesthetic aspects of the Quran, the Divine Book that distinguishes between the Truth and falsehood, will have a significant effect in promoting the implementation of Quranic concepts in everyday life."
Ms Yaquti's thesis is based upon Sayyid Qutb's theory about artistic aspects of religious texts.
It investigates aesthetic components in the Holy Quran with a look at selected verses from Surah Al-Rahman.
