Speaking to IQNA, Mehdi Saed said that as well as expertise, Quran recitation requires artistic taste and that is why there are so many styles of recitation among Egyptian Qaris, for instance.
Saed, who is from the western province of Hamedan, said he started learning Quran recitation at the age of 9 when he realized that he is talented in this field.
In the following years, he said, a Quran master named Ali Akbar Rezazadeh initiated a weekly Quran recitation session in the city which grew very popular and continues to be held every week.
"I started attending the Quranic session in 1992 and learned Tajweed and the basics of the science of recitation with Master Rezazadeh.
"Later on, I listened to recitations by prominent Qaris, especially Egyptian masters, and practiced to improve my recitation skills."
Saed said Quranic programs held by government organizations and institutions are good but Quranic sessions held by grassroots centers are much more effective.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Saed noted that he will repsresnt Iran in the recitation category of Indonesia Quran contest while Mostafa Esfehanian will compete for Iran in the category of memorization.
Indonesia's International Holy Quran Competition is slated to be held in the capital Jakarta on September 22-29.
Quran reciters and memorizers from various countries will compete in the Quranic event in the categories of memorization, recitation and Tajweed.
