IQNA – Two Malaysian representatives emerged as champions in their respective categories at the 65th International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA).

Malaysian qari Aiman Ridhwan Mohamad Ramlan and qariah Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi each claimed first place in the recitation category. They received their awards in the closing ceremony which was held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, Malaysian news outlets reported.

Aiman Ridhwan secured the top spot with a score of 97.01 percent, ahead of Indonesia’s Ahmad Azroi Hasibuan (95.13 percent) and Türkiye’s Muhammed Yahya Yildizhan (93.88 percent), who placed second and third respectively.

In the women’s category, Wan Sofea Aini scored 95.88 percent, surpassing Morocco’s Fatima Zahra Assafar (89.38 percent) and Indonesia’s Nur Rahmiyatin Adhya (87.59 percent).

In the women’s memorisation category, Malaysia’s Putri Auni Khadijah Mohd Hanif took second place with 96.75 percent, while Syria’s Tasneem Arian Omar claimed the championship with 97.5 percent.

For the men’s memorisation category, Usamah Barghouth from Germany emerged champion with 98.25 percent, followed by Syria’s Mohammad Abdullah Masasati (98.01 percent) and India’s Mohammad Jamil Farhat (97.25 percent).

The award ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

Held from 2 to 9 August, the 65th MTHQA gathered 71 participants from 49 countries, continuing its tradition as one of the world’s most prestigious international competitions celebrating the art of Quran recitation and memorisation.
