Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi addressing a public gathering in Badgam, said that despite claims by the authorities, ban on Muharram processions continued in the territory. He said that if the claim of India and its administration was true that situation in Kashmir was normal then why there were restrictions on religious processions.
He also expressed concern that despite the commencement of winter, the authorities had not taken serious steps for rehabilitation of the flood victims in the territory. He said that the authorities had left the flood-hit people on the mercy of circumstances who were compelled to live under the open sky. He urged the philanthropists to help their flood-affected brethren in their rehabilitation.
It is to mention here that traditionally main procession of 8th Muharram used to start in Srinagar from Shaheed Gunj and culminate at Dalgate after passing through different areas while the procession of 10th Muharram would start from Aabi Guzar and end at Zadibal. However, the Indian authorities banned these processions in 1990 and now only small mourning rallies are allowed in selected areas.
