--“Presence of the Christians at the mourning ceremonies of Imam Hussein (AS) transmits the message of national unity and solidarity between Islam and Christianity to the world”, this is according to MP for Christian minorities in Iran.
Yonatan Betkolia told IQNA that resorting of Christian people to Imam Hussein (AS) is due to the common beliefs existing between Islam and Christianity and based on these beliefs one who is killed in the path of God is martyr.

“Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred in Neynava land which was the governing center of the Assyrians and the body of the great Imam was protected by the Christians for three days ”, he added.

Secretary General of the International Union of Assyrians went on to say that since the Christians were monotheistic 600 years ago, they pay a special respect to the Imam (AS) and participation in such mourning ceremonies is for remembering the tragedy of Karbala.
