According to tahiti-infos website, the new translation of the Divine Book was unveiled on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the first mosque of the country.
The program was attended by Muslim officials, ambassadors of Islamic countries and government officials of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
The ceremony began with recitation of Holy Quran and continued with speeches by the country’s Muslims’ leader who talked about Islam and some of Quranic teachings.
Role of Muslims in history of the country was clarified at the program as well.
There are some 68,000 people living in the Marshall Islands. The Marshallese are of Micronesian origin and migrated from Asia several thousand years ago. A minority of Marshallese have some recent Asian ancestry, mainly Japanese.
The official language of the Marshall Islands is Marshallese, but it is common to speak the English language.
