According to the public relations office of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the opening ceremony of the competition was held on January 5 at the Iranian Cultural Center in New Delhi.
It was attended by Hojat-ol-Islam Mahdawipur, representative of the Supreme Leader in India, Ali Fuladi, Iranian cultural attaché in India, Ahmad Alami, Iranian cultural deputy and Rabi’ian, prominent Iranian Qari who served as a judge in this edition of the competition.
Addressing the ceremony, Fuladi talked about the organization of the Quranic event and expressed hope that such competitions will help to promote Quranic teachings.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mahdawi then read one of Imam Ali’s (AS) sermons in Nahj-ul-Balaqa about the importance and value of reading and contemplating the Holy Quran.
He considered the Quranic event as a manifestation of Islamic unity since it was attended by Shia and Sunni Quran activists from all over India.
Also speaking at the program was Mazharullah, Quran reciter, memorizer and member of the jury of this edition of the competition who highlighted the important role of Quranic teachings in creating a pious and Islamic society.
Mazharullah noted the Holy Quran is the only Divine book that has remained unchanged in history.
He added that today the Holy Quran is the most read book in the world.
Rabi’ain was another speaker at the program. He elaborated on the rules and regulations of the competition in memorization and recitation categories.
69 memorizers of the entire Quran and 114 Quran reciters from 14 states of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Haryana, attended the event.
The national Quran competition concluded on January 7.
