TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Tunisian scholar and researcher referred to satellite networks belonging to radical sectarian groups as one of the challenges facing efforts to enhance Islamic unity.

Speaking to IQNA, Khalid al-Saeedani said these networks, which are generally run by Western spy agencies, exaggerate the differences between Shias and Sunnis and threaten Muslim unity.
He underlined that religious figures and scholars should play a more constructive and effective way to thwart these attempts and preventing discord by elaborating on the common grounds between Islamic schools of thought.
He noted that all Muslims believe in the Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and have one Qibla (direction to Makkah that should be faced when a Muslim says prayers), adding that these commong grounds should be highlighted to strengthen unity.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Al-Saeedani, who was among the participants in the 28th Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran earlier this year, described the conference as an important event and said its discussions should focus on the Muslim world’s current issues.
He stressed that the decisions made in the conference should be followed by actions in order for the event to be effective.
The 28th International Islamic Unity Conference was held in the Iranian capital on January 7-10. The theme of the event was “United Muslim Ummah: Challenges and Strategies”.
Hundreds of Sunni and Shia scholars and intellectuals from more than 60 countries took part in the three-day conference to discuss ways for promoting unity and solidarity in the Muslim world.
