According to New Turk Post, the plan is underway in the main prison in Konya, a major city in south-western Turkey.
Its implementation is supervised by both the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and General Directorate of Prisons.
Thirteen inmates are taking Quran memorization courses offered in the plan.
They want to learn the entire Quran by heart just as they fellow inmate, Abdul Ghader Gilani did.
Gilani memorized the Quran in 15 months while in jail.
“When I was sentenced to 18 months in prison, I knew there was something good in the verdict,” he said recently.
“At that moment, I decided to become a memorizer of the entire Quran, although prior to that I would have never thought to be able to achieve that.”
