TEHRAN (IQNA) – Director of the Dar-ol-Quran of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq, stressed the need for Muslims to take note of the importance of the Nights of Qadr.

Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Qadr or Night of Power) means the night of destiny, honor and dignity.

It is this night in which the first Divine Revelation came to the heart of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

The Night of Qadr is described in the Quran as being “better than a thousand months” (97:3).

Any action done on this night such as reciting the Quran, remembering Allah, etc. is better than acting for one thousand months which do not contain the night of Qadr.

The exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is unknown. However, according to many traditions, it is in the month of Ramadan. Shias believe that it is whether the eve of 19th or 21st or 23rd of the month of Ramadan. Majority of Shia Muslims emphasis on the eve of 23rd and majority of Sunni Muslims mark 27th of the month of Ramadan as Laylat al-Qadr.

In an interview with IQNA, Sheikh Hassan al-Mansouri, director of the Dar-ol-Quran of the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, highlighted the virtues of Laylat al-Qadr and said God wants Muslims to play their role in determining their destiny on this night.

He said Laylat al-Qadr is also an opportunity for raising awareness among people about the objectives of the Holy Quran.

Muslims should take this golden opportunity to elevate their lives in this world and the next, al-Mansouri stated.

He referred to Hadiths that underline the ritual of Ihya of Laylat al-Qadr (keeping vigil and performing prayers and reading the Quran at Laylat al-Qadr) and said every year Muslims gather at mosques and religious centers to benefit from the virtues and blessings of Laylat al-Qadr.
