TEHRAN (IQNA) –The Islamic Research Academy affiliated to Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center plans to hold a scientific Quranic competition for its preachers – both men and women– all over the country.

According to akhbarelyom.com, the competition will be organized after Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, called for promotion Quranic skills of preachers and encouraging them to conduct research studies.

Nadhir Ayad, secretary general of the academy, said the categories of the competition include memorization of a quarter of the Quran, from Surah Fatiha to Surah al-An’aam, with observation of Tajweed principles.

Jurisprudence issues such as Taharat (ritual purity) and the views of scholars about Mutashabihat (verses which are not clear or not completely agreed upon) are also among the categories of the competition, he said.

Ayad added that the main objective of such competitions is to train skillful preachers who can fight extremist ideas in the society.

The contest will be held on December 13 and winners will be announced in late February, 2021.
