TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf said the Iranian nation created a great epic on election day this Friday, disappointing the enemies who hoped to see otherwise.

Speaking at an open session of the Parliament on Monday, Ghalibaf said the people went to the polls and voted in the presidential election despite the coronavirus pandemic and the economic problems in the country.

He said the people’s turnout in the polls which signified their support for the Islamic establishment will strengthen national unity and prevent enemies from harming the country.

Ghalibaf further pledged that the Parliament will employ all of its capacities and capabilities for rapport, full cooperation, and synergy with the administration of President-elect Ebrahim Raeisi.

Highlighting the Parliament’s efforts to fulfill its duties while respecting the independence of the branches of power, the speaker expressed hope that effectual cooperation with the next administration would yield tangible results in the settlement of people’s problems and allow the public to experience the services offered by the revolutionary forces.

Iran’s Interior Ministry on Saturday released the official result of the June 18 presidential election, announcing Hojat-ol-Islam Raeisi as the winner.

The winner garnered 17,926,345 votes, out of a total of 28,933,004 ballots cast.

In a message addressed to the Iranian nation on Saturday, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution lauded the epic turnout in Iran’s presidential election, saying the “great” winners of the key vote are the people themselves.

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei thanked the people for turning out en masse in the June 18 elections to choose a new president and representatives to the City and Village Councils and said their “epic, passionate participation” added “a new shining page to the [record] of their honors.”

“Among the factors that could have each diminished participation in the elections, pleasant scenes of your gatherings at polling stations countrywide were a clear sign of your iron will, hopeful heart, and vigilant eyes,” the Leader said.

“The great winner of the elections yesterday was the Iranian nation, which stood up once again in the face of the propaganda campaign waged by the enemy’s mercenary media and temptations of the ill-wishers and showed off its presence in the heart of the political field,” he added.
