TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 10th session of the Islamic Radio and Television Union’s General Assembly, themed “Media Justice and Freedom of Expression,” began in Tehran on Tuesday.

Ali Karimian, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Radio and Television Union (IRTU), addressed the union’s tenth general assembly, which was themed “Media Justice and Freedom of Expression.”

He began his speech by paying tribute to the souls of the Islamic world’s martyrs, notably, Martyr Haj Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandes.

Karimian also extended a warm welcome to the conference’s eminent attendees. “Media justice and freedom of expression are among the main goals of the Islamic Radio and Television Union,” Karimian said, elaborating on the General Assembly’s motto, adding that certain governments attempt to seize control of the world’s media outlets and deprive others of their inalienable right to freedom of expression based on false allegations and that no one has the authority to restrict this basic right. Denying people who seek honest information and moral media products is an act of social injustice and tyranny. Today’s arrogant nations refuse to allow sovereign countries to use media infrastructure, while dictating how media and journalists should think about and portray global events, according to Karimian.

Referring to the recent seizure of many Islamic websites by American officials, Karimian stated that the concept of freedom of speech now is merely a ploy in the hands of global arrogance to intimidate and impose its ideologies. The IRTU Secretary-General went on to say that worldwide arrogance has removed many Islamic websites through irrational and unlawful means. “The removal of numerous Islamic TV channels from the satellites and the seizure of several IRTU-affiliated websites are examples of violations of free speech,” he said.

Karimian reiterated that freedom of expression cannot be used as a weapon by the US and the West, nor can it have a dual interpretation. “While we condemn the Americans for their unlawful and immoral conduct, we proclaim that such a foolish, impulsive, and irrational act cannot prevent their ultimate collapse and can not break our determination. We will fight more vigorously than we had in the past” Karimian emphasized. “We cannot remain silent in the face of the Zionist regime’s genocide against Palestinian children and the murder of Yemen’s oppressed nation,” Karimian added, referring to crimes committed by Western governments.

“We cannot stand by and watch mercenaries perpetrate crimes in Afghanistan, as well as the martyrdom of oppressed students. We cannot stay silent while the US and Zionist governments perpetrate heinous crimes in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, and other nations, “Karimian said.”

Even if they attempt to silence us, we must continue to broadcast to the world the Resistance Front’s great accomplishments in the 12-day battle in Gaza, the magnificent presence of the Syrian people in the elections, and the huge triumph of the Iranian people in the recent presidential elections. Because our silence is tantamount to our demise,” Karimian continued by saying.

“Religious teachings have taught us to stand on the side of the downtrodden and against the oppressors. We, the believers, will go down in history as immortals in the field of media, and global hegemony and Zionism will eventually collapse,” IRTU’s Secretary-General said. In his closing remarks, Karimian expressed gratitude to all those who helped arrange the conference, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and the distinguished participants.
