TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of Iraq’s Asaib Ahl al-Haqq (League of the Righteous) group said the results of the country’s upcoming elections will demonstrate the people’s support for the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).

Sheikh Qais al-Khazali said the polls’ outcome will show to the world that the Iraqi people want the PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, to remain, Al-Ahed News reported.

The Iraqi people want to see the candidates supporting the PMU win the elections, he said.

Al-Khazali stressed that weakening, dissolving or merging the PMU (with other forces) are not acceptable.

The PMU and all Iraqis are in one front against the US meddling and unanimously reject any normalization with the Zionist regime, the cleric added.

Iraq is set to hold a general election on Sunday, October 10, which will be its fifth parliamentary vote since the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled former dictator Saddam Hussein.
