TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said Quran competitions are venues that create an atmosphere for the youth to benefit more from the word of revelation and resort to the Holy Book.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehi Khamoushi

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehi Khamoushi made the remarks in an address to the inauguration ceremony of the final round of Iran’s 44th national Quran competition, held in Tehran on Monday evening.

In his speech, he referred to verse 21 of Surah al-Hashr “Had We sent down this Koran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humble itself and split asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the parables we strike for people so that they will reflect,” and stressed the magnificence of the Holy Book.

God says that if one resorts to the Quran, he or she will find the way of salvation, he noted, adding that holding Quran competitions is a way for creating an atmosphere so that people, especially the youth, benefit more from the word of revelation and resort to the Book of God.

Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, head of the organization’s Quranic Affairs Center, also addressed the ceremony, giving a report on the organization of the competition.

He said the preliminary round was held in 140 towns and cities and the top contenders made it to the provincial stage.

After the end of the provincial contest, some 220 men and women qualified for the finals, he noted.

Qarasheikhlu added that the competition will conclude on Thursday and winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony on Friday.

Top participants in different categories will represent the Islamic Republic of Iran in international Quran competitions next year, he went on to say.
