TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili underlined the need for facilitating Iranian’s pilgrimage trips, including to Syria and holy cities in Iraq.

The Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization should play a role in this regard, Esmaeili said at an induction ceremony for the new head of the organization, Seyed Sadeq Hosseini.

He thanked the services of former head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Ali Reza Rashidian, who held the post for nearly four years.

Esmaeili further said one of the problems in pilgrimage to Syria is the high costs of the trip, urging plans to reduce the costs.

As for Hajj, he said work is underway to prepare the grounds for sending Iranians to Hajj.

He added that efforts are also being made to remove hurdles in the way of Umrah pilgrimage.

Earlier this month, the Culture Minister appointed Hosseini as the head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

He hoped Hosseini would use the capacities of the organization to enhance Hajj and pilgrimage affairs.
