Istihlal Committee’s Efforts to Sight Ramadan Crescent
TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of clerics and experts of the Istihlal (moonsighting) committee of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s office tried to sight the crescent moon of Ramadan in Qom on Friday evening.
They did not see the crescent and, therefore, the first day of the holy month will fall on Sunday in Iran.
Istihlal refers to efforts for sighting the new moon that determines the beginning of a new month on the lunar Hijri calendar.
