Addressing Friday prayer worshippers in Tehran today, Nasser Abu Sharif referred to the history of Palestinians’ resistance against the Zionist occupiers and highlighted the successive defeats imposed on the Zionist regime.
He said in the recent war launched against the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Jihad movement managed to impose its conditions on the Zionist enemy.
Hundreds of rockets were launched toward the occupied territories by the Islamic Jihad and the movement alone forced the Zionists to retreat and accept the conditions to reach a ceasefire, he stated.
Abu Sharif went on to say that these victories were achieved thanks to the support from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Last Friday launched its heavy bombardment of Gaza, flattening buildings and striking refugee camps across the territory. The Israeli military said it was targeting members of the Islamic Jihad, including the group’s senior commanders, but according to Palestinian officials, almost half of the 44 people who died were civilians.
At least 350 Palestinian civilians were also wounded.
Islamic Jihad responded by firing hundreds of rockets into the occupied territories forcing the Zionist regime to agree to a ceasefire.
The fighting was the worst in Gaza since an 11-day war last year that killed at least 250 people in the impoverished coastal enclave and about 13 people in Israel.
