TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq Arjun (1903-1981), was an Al-Azhar scholar who wrote many works in different areas of Islamic sciences. One of his books is titled “Commander of the Faithful Ali ibn Abi Taleb (AS); An Exemplary and Ideal Caliph”.

Battle of Khaybar

In this book, he introduces the character and Seerah of Imam Ali (AS) and his role in helping the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

He talks about Imam Ali’s (AS) childhood, the crisis and famine at the time and other important events during that period.

Sheikh Arjun also discusses the events after the demise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as well as those in the latter years of Imam Ali’s (AS) life.

One of the issues he highlights in the book is the braveries of Imam Ali (AS), including in the Battle of Uhud. He writes that half of the 70 killed in the battle were slain by the sword of Imam Ali (AS). “In the Battle of Uhud, God tested Muslims and all of those around the Holy Prophet (PBUH) scattered except for Ali (AS) who remained next to the Prophet (PBUH) and he was the hero of Islam.”

It was here that the role of Imam Ali (AS) was revealed because he stayed beside the Prophet (PBUH) with an exceptional heroism and protected him against repeated attacks by the disbelievers.

In the Battle of Khndaq (Battle of the Trench), when Muslims were placed under a siege, a man named Amr ibn Abd Wudd from the enemy front challenged Muslims. He was one of the heroes and brave men of Arabia at the time while Ali (AS) was a young man. Ali (AS) went to fight him and defeated him.

The forts of Khaybar were also conquered by Imam Ali (AS). The Holy Prophet (PBUH) told Imam Ali (AS) in the Battle of Khaybar: “By Allah, if Allah guides one man (to Islam) through you, it is better for you than the most valuable camels.”

Imam Ali (AS) did not attend only one battle and that was the Battle of Tabouk (Battle of Tabouk) and that was because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) ordered him to stay in Medina. This has been mentioned in the Hadith of Al-Manzilah in which the Prophet (PBUH) told Imam Ali (AS): “You are to me of the status of Harun to Musa, except that there is no prophet after me.”

When the Prophet (PBUH) moved from Mecca to Medina on the night of Hijra, he tasked his cousin Imam Ali (AS) to sleep on his bed and wear Prophet’s (PBUH) clothes so that the disbelievers would not notice his absence.

The heart of the young Ali (AS) was filled with the spirit of faithfulness and heroism. He slept on the bed of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the most dangerous moments and was always ready to sacrifice his life for the Prophet (PBUH).

He supported the flag of Jihad which was in the hands of the Prophet (PBUH), fought with the enemy in various battles no matter how small the number of Muslims seemed in comparison with the enemy’s, and turned the fear in the hearts of Muslims to peace, tranquility and security.
