TEHRAN (IQNA) – Kamal al-Hilbawi, an Egyptian Muslim thinker who passed away earlier this week, was a real supporter of the Islamic Revolution and the anti-Israeli resistance.

This is a according to the Assembly of Lebanese Muslim Scholars, which, in a statement, offered condolences over the death of the Muslim figure.

The assembly described him as a propagator and preacher of true Islam who sought to promote Muslim unity and confront deviated currents.

He trained many Muslim youths to become preachers and leaders, the statement said.

It added that Hilbawi was among the first to voice support for the Islamic Revolution after its victory in 1979.

He also backed and defended the resistance in Palestine and Lebanon with all his power, the statement said.

It also referred to attacks on the scholar for his steadfastness in sticking to fundamental principles in Islamic thought and said these attacks did not affect his stances.

Hilbawi died in London on Wednesday and was buried in a cemetery in the British capital.

Born in 1939, Hilbawi used to be a spokesperson for the Muslim Brotherhood in the West but later left the group.

Hilbawy is known for his writings and views about Islam, current affairs, modern times, and the West.

He is also famous for Islamic activism in Europe and helping in establishing several Islamic organizations, including the Muslim Association of Britain in 1997.
