It is a reality that humans are forgetful. This can lead us to forget the spiritual air that we had during the blessed month of Ramadan. Just like the way education eradicates ignorance, reminding can help us confront negligence.
Humans are in need of reminders but this reminder is not essentially an external one.
To maintain the spirituality of Ramadan, we can wake up 30 minutes earlier than the morning call to prayer, and worship God as we did during the fasting month. This is a reminder.
Meanwhile, we need to stay away from acts and things that may aggravate our negligence, such as accompanying those who may badly affect us.
Paying visits to holy sites, participating in religious events, visiting graveyards, reading books about ethics and religion, and paying extra attention to the Quran and hadiths can help us strengthen our spirituality.
One of the most important issues here is to abandon sins. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) once said that the best deed in Ramadan is to abandon sins. Imam Ali (AS) also said that abandoning sins has more priority over good deeds because the former can ruin the latter.
We all should try to keep the pledge and repentance that we had during Qadr nights.
