Quranic Personality of Year Named

IQNA – The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, named famous calligrapher Uthman Taha as the Quranic figure of the year.

Sheikh Hassan al-Mansouri, an advisor to the Astan’s secretary general, said the selection of the Quranic personality of the year was done for the third consecutive year with the aim of honoring those serving the Holy Book.

He said Dr Uthman Taha is a renowned Quranic calligrapher millions of copies of whose calligraphed Mus’haf have been printed and distributed among Muslims all over the world.

He added that during a meeting with Uthman Taha in the holy city of Medina, he was informed of being chosen as the Quranic personality of the year and given a certificate of honor.

According to al-Mansouri, Taha thanked the officials of Astan and said he is willing to visit Iraq if his health conditions improve.

Taha also highlighted the influence of late Iraqi calligrapher Hashim al-Baghdadi in Quranic calligraphy.

Last year, Dr Fadhil al-Samiraei, a renowned Quranic researcher, had been named the Quranic personality of the year.
