The Holy Quran stresses its importance for all and especially emphasizes that it is necessary for divine messengers to be better able to guide people.
Good-temperedness plays a major role in spreading kindness and making one’s words effective. That is why God, the Most Merciful, sent messengers and prophets who were gentle and good-tempered so as to be able to attract people to the truth.
God says in Verse 159 of Surah Al Imran: “Only through the Divine Mercy have you (Muhammad) been able to deal with your followers so gently. If you had been stern and hard-hearted, they would all have deserted you a long time ago.”
The prophets of God were so gentle and kind and treated people with such good manners that they not only attracted the truth seekers and led them to the right path, but also sometimes made the enemies feel ashamed of themselves and their behavior. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the best example of such a virtue (good-temperedness), about who the Quran says: “And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality.” (Verse 4 of Surah Al-Qalam)
So good-temperedness is very important in human relationships and has many social benefits. It helps to attract people’s attention and affection as well as their trust.
In Verse 83 of Surah Al-Baqarah, God, in making a covenant with Bani Isra’il, says: “…speak kindly to people.” This shows the significance of good behavior and kindness toward people, on which Islam lays great emphasis.

According to Verses 43 and 44 of Surah Taha, being good-tempered and kind to people is also important in dealing with the enemies, especially when trying to invite them to the truth. That is why when Moses (AS) is ordered to convey the divine message to pharaoh, he is told: “Go to Pharaoh, for he has become insolent. Speak with him in a gentle manner so that perhaps he may come to himself or have fear (of God).”
Therefore, when forbidding wrong and inviting truth are done with gentleness and kindness, it is hoped that the most hard-hearted will be influenced.
