IQNA – A researcher in Quranic studies has named some factors that contribute to an effective Quran recitation.

At the 19th Specialized Meeting of Distinguished Quranic Scholars, Qaris, and Memorizers in Tehran this week, researcher Mohsen Meftah presented a paper titled "Principles and Methods for Conveying Divine Messages through the Art of Quran Recitation."

Meftah emphasized that a qari must adhere to certain principles to effectively convey the hidden messages within the holy verses. "The first principle is a shift in perspective," he stated, "where the Quran is seen not just as a text revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) but as a living entity."

Citing a hadith by Imam Reza (AS), he said one needs to grasp the truth behind the words in the Quran. “The Quran represents divine life, and engaging with its words brings about external purity, leading to inner purity."

Meftah asserted that recognizing the Quran as a living entity enhances its educational and spiritual impact.

"This understanding should first develop within the qari and then be conveyed to the audience," he said.

He suggested that supplications recited before Quranic recitation can help achieve this deeper connection, likening the encounter with the Quran to facing a source of light that illuminates the heart and mind.

The researcher further explained that constant engagement with the Quran alleviates worries and sorrows, and fosters a beautiful and pleasant manner of speech. "Such a person, through their close relationship with the Quran, always supports their arguments with Quranic evidence, which also enhances their demeanor and character," Meftah noted.

Meftah also stressed the importance of understanding the Quran deeply, which includes familiarity with Arabic literature. He cited Imam al-Baqir (AS), who said that Arabic has the capacity to explain other languages, thus a deep understanding of Arabic enhances one's engagement with the Quran.

He concluded by advising qaris to regularly study renowned Quranic commentaries, such as "Tafsir al-Mizan," to deepen their understanding.

"When reciting the Quran, one should do so as if it has just been revealed," he said, quoting the Prophet. "Such an approach softens the hearts of both the qari and the listener."
