Speaking about the scientific authority of the Quran in a local event in Qom on Saturday, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taqi Sobhani described it as a concept aimed at integrating Quranic principles into modern life.
The seminary lecturer clarified that the concept does not specifically seek to establish “Islamic science” but rather focuses on the Quran’s capacity to influence human progress.
"The belief that the Quran plays a fundamental and essential role in human life and knowledge is both profound and rooted in faith. While this belief is not exclusive to our contemporary era, this project introduces a novel approach by suggesting that understanding the Quran can lead to advancements in human sciences and cultural and social transformations in line with its teachings," Sobhani explained.

Citing the Quranic verse, “Indeed this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives the good news to the faithful who do righteous deeds that there is a great reward for them,” (Surah Al-Isra, verse 9) the scholar highlighted the scripture’s role as a guide for humanity.
He described the project as focusing on the Quran’s civilizational impact rather than its direct relationship with science.
“We view the scientific authority of the Quran as a project for civilizational transformation,” Sobhani noted. “Today, a key component of building civilizations is through knowledge and science. Without incorporating Quranic values into culture, society, and politics, we cannot achieve meaningful civilizational change.”

He further stressed the importance of the Quran’s role in safeguarding human intellect. “Without the Quran, human reason is prone to error. If the intellect lacks a guiding framework, it risks being influenced by ideologies and desires. While reason is a source of knowledge, it cannot find the correct path without Quranic guidance,” he remarked.
