Bazaar of Tehran Covered in Black in Mourning Month of Muharram

IQNA – Bazaars in Iran are covered in black cloth with the arrival of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram in which Shia Muslims mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

Muharram mourning rituals have been held in Iran’s Bazaars since the rule of Buyid Dynasty (934 to 1062). The following photos show the atmosphere of Muharram mourning in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar.
