French Islamologist and researcher Yahya Bono made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that reliance on Islam, national independence and anti-imperialist ideas are the three main elements of the Islamic Revolution.
He said different groups that played a part in the victory of the revolution each paid more attention to one of these three elements but the important point is that they all had consensus over the significance of these elements.
Bono noted that one factor that distinguishes Iran’s revolution from others in the region is that there are different political groups with different ideas in Iran all of which have anti-imperialist behavior and none are the cronies of a foreign power.
“Even in seemingly independent countries we always see that some political groups are supported by a foreign power” that uses these groups’ materialistic and propaganda needs to interfere in their internal affairs, he said.
“In Iran, however, all political currents originate from people’s desire, support the people’s views and have no ideological or materialistic dependence on foreign powers.”
The French scholar underlined that another important point is leadership. “No Ummah (nation) can continue on the right path without an Imam (leader) and the Islamic Revolution of Iran is no exception.”
He said Iran’s political groups that come from people themselves saw the manifestation of their demands in Imam Khomeini (RA) and Imam Khomeini gathered all these groups around one pivot and led the Islamic Revolution to victory.
Bono said that after the demise of Imam Khomeini (RA), Ayatollah Khamenei assumed the leadership of the Islamic Revolution.
He stated that during Imam Khamenei’s leadership, the Western countries indirectly threatened Iran but gradually realized that the new leader, like Imam Khomeini (RA), is incredibly brave and judicious and would not abandon his Islamic, national and anti-imperialist stances.
He underlined that the Islamic Revolution of Iran managed to achieve victory and remain powerful on the right path by following the Velayat-e Faqih.
Bono said in countries like Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya a revolution in the real sense did not take place but there were uprisings against the ruling regime during which the rulers were toppled and replaced by others.
“It is true that Islamists came to power in Egypt and Tunisia, but what happened there was not an Islamic Revolution like what happened in Iran.”
The French scholar went on to say that the West named the uprisings in the Arab world as the Arab Spring so that it can approve of them at one stage and gradually establish a cultural domination in these countries.
