Speaking to OTV network on Tuesday, December 3, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah added that the agreement will have major outcomes for the entire region, Al-Alam news network reported.
On November 24, Iran and the G5+1 (Permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) signed an interim deal in Geneva to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Tehran over its nuclear energy program.
Nasrallah noted that there were certain groups in the region who wanted to move the regional affairs in a direction that would lead to war against Iran.
“Of course this was not a simple option because Iran is not weak or isolated. [But in any case] this option would have dangerous consequences for the region.”
Nasrallah said the first outcome of the Iran-G5+1 agreement is putting off the option of war against Iran to a distant future.
He said the agreement established a new international fact, that is, the world is now a multi-polar one and no single country can rule the world any longer. “This is an opportunity for the third world countries.”
Hezbollah secretary general stressed that the US has faced defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as in Lebanon and Gaza and that Washington’s so-called new Middle East project has also failed.
He said the US has also failed in Syria and on the other hand Iran has resisted against sanctions while financial and economic conditions in the US and Europe are in a critical condition.
“The US is not seeking to enter a [new] war. They are tired of wars. That is why the door was opened for a nuclear agreement.”
He further pointed to the Saudis’ enmity with Iran, saying that Iran has been trying to develop ties with Riyadh for years but Saudi Arabia has never renounced its hostility toward Tehran.
He noted that it was the Saudis who provoked Saddam Hussein’s war against Iran and that the Saudis have never stopped their enmity against Iran.
Nasrallah stressed that Saudi Arabia’s problem with Iran is not a religious one because Riyadh also has had problems with Egypt, Yemen and Syria (Sunni-majority countries) in the past as well.
He said Saudi Arabia wants all Arab countries of the region to follow Riyadh.
On Syria, Hezbollah leader said the military option is not useful and will not lead to the resolution of the crisis.
He called on all of the countries involved in the Syrian situation to seek a political solution.
