Swedes learned about Shia Islam after the victory of the Islamic Revolution a Swedish professor of history of religions said.

Addressing a seminar titled “New Image of Shi’ism in Sweden”, David Thurfjell, professor of Södertörn University in Stockholm, added that while Shias make up a large percentage of Muslims, especially in North Africa and Middle East, in Sweden people think Shias are a very small minority in the Muslim world.

He also said that Swedes think Shia and Sunni Islam have fundamental differences whereas the two schools are similar in the fundamental beliefs such as belief in Tawhid (monotheism), prophethood, resurrection, etc.

The seminar on “New Image of Shi’ism in Sweden”, was organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in Sweden.
