Dhivehi Translation of Holy Quran Complete Under Supervision of Maldivian Govt.
The new Dhivehi translation of the holy Quran being done by the government was returned to the president’s office not because of any translation or grammatical errors, chief government spokesman Mohamed Hussain Shareef has said on Monday.
He said that the newly completed translation was taken back to prepare a print ready version including deciding on a typesetting and layout.
“Extra special care is given to translating and printing the holy Quran; it can’t be treated as just another job and not everyone has the capability to do it,” chief spokesman said. “For example one of the issues noted by Novelty Printers was that when the lines are aligned in some lines there might be three words while in others there might be seven.
The letters of the holy Quran cannot be written in just any manner. It has to follow some set rules. These are the types of issues involved.”
He further emphasized that there were no errors in the latest translation. “Not one error was found and in all these years of checking,” he said. “Not even one grammatical error or a translation error.”
