The Arcane/Cosmic Pictures production JERUSALEM seeks to increase public understanding and appreciation for Jerusalem's historical, spiritual, cultural and artistic uniqueness, as well as highlighting some of the intersections between Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The crew had the rare opportunity to film inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam and the largest mosque in Jerusalem. Muslims believe that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was transported from Mecca to Jerusalem during his Night Journey. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led prayers towards this site before the Muslims were commaned to pray in the direction of the Ka'aba in Mecca.
To capture the energy and beauty of Jerusalem in 3D, IMAX filmed many scenes with a steadicam. This stabilizing mount allowed IMAX camera operator, Scott Hoffman, to film extraordinary images of the old city as if he is gliding through its streets. The camera equipment weighs more than 40 kg (90 lbs).
Jake Eberts, the executive producer of JERUSALEM 3D, has also financed, developed or produced movies such as Gandhi, Dances with Wolves, A River Runs Through It and Driving Miss Daisy.
The film is produced by Taran Davies, George Duffield and Daniel Ferguson, who worked closely with advisors and experts from each of the three major monotheistic religions, as well as leading archeologists and historians.
JERUSALEM 3D will be released in 2013 to IMAX 3D, Omnimax and other Giant Screen 3D theaters.
