38-year old Majdi Al-Qaiti came second in competition with 19 other contenders, all Muslims.
Al-Qaiti said he attended the competition to show the solidarity and fraternity existing among Egypt’s Muslims and Christians and presenting the Al-Mi’sara region as a model for peaceful coexistence between the followers of the two faiths.
He took part in the competition by taking a written exam. It took him 4 hours to answer the exam’s 20 Quranic questions.
The Quran competition was organized by the Al-Mi’sara region’s public library.
