IQNA – A prominent Iranian cleric stressed the need for proper planning for participation of the country’s pilgrims in this year’s Umrah pilgrimage.

“I hope that you will be able to plan and execute Umrah well with appropriate management and knowledge of the current conditions,” Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi said in a meeting in Qom on Thursday with Hojat-ol-Islam Abdol Fattah Navab, the Leader’s Representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs.

He referred to the favorable process of holding this year’s Hajj rituals and said that, Thank God, Hajj plans progressed well, and this is the result of the efforts and proper management of those involved in this field.

Expressing hope for continued success in Hajj plans, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi added, “I hope that the plans will continue with full coordination (with related bodies).”

He also emphasized the need to maintain calm and avoid any action that would provide an excuse to the other side, noting that this issue must be followed with due care and management.

At the beginning of this meeting, Hojat-ol-Islam Navab presented a report on the implementation of the Hajj plan earlier this year.

Umrah is a Mustahab (recommended but not obligatory) pilgrimage to Mecca which Muslims can take at any time of the year, unlike the Hajj pilgrimage that is obligatory for every able-bodied and financially able Muslim once in their lifetime and can be performed only in the first days of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajja.
