TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Indonesia Hojatollah Ebrahmian met with the South East Asian country’s director of Awqaf Department.

Ebrahimian in this meeting suggested that Jakarta use Iran’s experiences in the field of Waqf (religious endowment), public relations office of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) reported.
He also called for cooperation between Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization and Indonesia’s Waqf Department.
Muhammad Nour Samad, the Indonesian official, explained about Awqaf in his country and welcomed the idea of benefitting from Iran’s experiences in the field.
He also noted that there are some 435,000 Waqf (endowed) sites in his country.
Indonesia is the country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Around 90 percent of the country’s 250 million people are Muslim.
In Islamic terms, Waqf refers to a religious endowment, i.e. a voluntary and irrevocable dedication of one's wealth or a portion of it - in cash or kind (such as a house or a garden), and its disbursement for Shariah compliant projects.
