They held talks with high officials in the Religious Affairs Administration at the central government of the People’s Republic of China in the capital Beijing and high government officials in the city of Urumqi of the autonomous Xingxiang region.
The delegation, headed by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Ambassador Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Alim, met on Wednesday, 22 April 2015, with the chairman of Xingxiang region, Shohrat Zakir, and top government officials of the region, OIC’s official website reported.
The two sides discussed the situation of Muslims in Xingxiang, which is the area with the largest Muslim population in China, estimated at around 8 million people.
They agreed on the need to continue communicating and developing the relations between the OIC and local authorities with the aim of finding the best means to bolster human and economic resources in Xingxiang region.
In the capital Beijing, the delegation met during the visit with the head of Chinese Islamic Society, Sheikh Hilal-addein. It also visited Yanhan Mosque in the city of Urumqi and the permanent exhibition for combating terrorism at the Public Security Administration of Xingxiang region.
On Thursday, 23 April 2015, the OIC delegation conducted a field visit of the city of Kashgar in the Xingxiang region, to observe the situation of Muslims there.
The delegation met during the visit with the governor of Kashgar, Mai Mayamin Bakri.
