TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 3, in the central Iranian holy city of Qom to pay tribute to the members of Iran’s Hajj delegation who lost their lives in a September crush of pilgrims in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

Members of the Quranic community, including veteran Quran reciter Abbas Salimi, as well as a number of officials, attended the event, which was held at the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA).

It included recitation of the Holy Quran by prominent Qaris, a Tawasheeh (religious songs) performance and a speech by Hojat-ol-Islam Abbas Eskandari, director general of the Islamic Development Department of Qom province.

On September 24, a crush of pilgrims in Mina, near the holy city of Makkah, killed some 7500 people, including at least 464 Iranians.

Among them were five members of Iran’s 20-strong Quranic delegation to Hajj.

Hassan Danesh, Amin Bavi, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, Foad Mash’ali and Saeed Saeedizadeh died in the tragic Mina crush while performing the Hajj rituals.
