TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Ankara University scholar said there has good progress in Turkey in the fields of Quran interpretation and translation in recent years.

Speaking at a webinar held at the virtual Quran exhibition recently, Professor Ismail Caliskan said universities in Turkey have good activities in Quranic scholarly fields.

The online forum featured discussions on the latest Quranic works in Turkey.

Caliskan, a Quran and Hadith scholar and professor of theology, said a great deal of attention has been paid to Quran translation and interpretation in Turkey over the past 50 years.

He said in the 1970s many new translations and exegeses of the Holy Book were published in the Turkish languages.

In the following decades, more such works were published, especially with the popularity of the idea of returning to the Quran in universities and scholarly institutions, he noted.

Caliskan also noted that since 2010, publishing translations of the Quran in other languages has also been on the rise.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the scholar called for promotion of ties between Iranian and Turkish academic communities in Quranic fields.

The virtual Quran exhibition was held in Iran during the holy month of Ramadan.
