The Leader issued a decree on July 1, 2021, appointing Mohseni Ejei as the head of the judiciary.
In this decree, Imam Khamenei highlighted the responsibilities of the judiciary as specified in the Constitution, asking the new head of the judiciary branch to continue the transformational approach and to implement the existing transformation plan, according to Khamenei.ir.
The following is the full text of this decree:
In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hujjat al-Islam Wal Muslimeen Hajj Sheikh Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei (May his achievements continue),
Now that Mr. Raeisi has been honored with the blessing to serve as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the vote of the people of Iran, I thank you very much for your valuable services during your judicial responsibility and for the honorable record you have left in laying a strong judiciary foundation and I appoint you as the head of the judiciary branch, on the basis of Article 157 of the Constitution, since, as well as judicial competence, you have precious experience and a deep understanding of judicial matters.
First, I expect you to pay serious attention to the fundamental responsibilities of the judiciary as specified in the Constitution: responsibilities such as administering justice, asserting the rights of the public, safeguarding the liberties which are legal, supervising the execution of the law, preventing crimes and combating corruption in a decisive manner.
Second, I expect you to continue the transformational approach in the judiciary branch, and to execute the existing transformation plan in a diligent manner.
Third, I expect you to spread new technologies in the judiciary and to guarantee the people’s easy and free access to judicial services.
Fourth, I expect you to entrust the tasks to competent, jihadi, pious and proficient individuals and to train worthy managers for high and middle levels of judicial and administrative affairs.
Fifth, I expect you to honor the services rendered by pious judges and to protect their dignity and status. I also ask you to decisively confront the small number of people who commit wrongdoings in the judiciary branch.
And sixth, I expect you to communicate with the people and to show your presence among them, as this involves many blessings.
I ask God the Exalted to bestow blessings on you and your colleagues and I hope that by God’s favor and grace, your services will satisfy God and His servants.
