TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Dar Al Ifta said printing verses of the Holy Quran on banknotes and coins is Makruh.

In Islamic terminology, something which is Makruh is a disliked act that is not haram (forbidden) or subject to punishment. However, a person who abstains from this act will be rewarded.

The Dar Al Ifta wrote in its official website that the Quran is the Book of God that has been sent to guide human beings and guarantees their salvation in this world and the Hereafter, al-Wafd News reported.

Therefore, it added, respecting the Quran and its sanctity is necessary and that is why Fuqaha (Islamic jurists) have said that toughing the divine book without having Wudu (ablution) is not allowed.

For the same reason, the Dar Al Ifta said, Fuqaha consider it to be Makruh to print verses of the Quran on banknotes and coins because they may be touched by those who do not have Wudu.

Dar al-Ifta is an Egyptian Islamic advisory body established as a center for Islam and Islamic legal research in the Arab country in 1313 AH/1895 CE.

It offers Muslims religious guidance and advice through the issuing of fatwas on everyday and contemporary issues
